Maltodextrin

Maltrodextrin is a complex carbohydrate although it has a relatively high Glycemic Index meaning it is rapidly absorbed by the body in a manner similar to Dextrose. As it is easily absorbed by the body, it provides a rapid increase in energy levels as it raises blood sugar levels and restores glycogen quickly after consumption. Maltodextrin is a popular carbohydrate which is often combined with dextrose to optimise glycogen replenishment and performance.

KEY BENEFITS
  • High GI carbohydrate
  • Rapidly digested
  • Great source of energy

Discover the Benefits of Complex Carbohydrate Maltodextrin!

Adding a complex carbohydrate to your diet can do wonders for your sports performance, muscle building capabilities and training endurance. Nutrients Direct has several complex carbohydrates in its range of Australian online supplements, which includes Maltodextrin. To learn more about this complex carbohydrate from our Australian online supplements range, please read our information below.

What Is Maltodextrin and How Does It Increase My Sports Performance?

Complex carbohydrate Maltodextrin scores relatively high on the glycaemic index and it is this particular fact that contributes to the benefit Maltodextrin can deliver to athletes. Maltodextrin is rapidly absorbed by the body, in a manner that is quite similar to another popular energy supplies – dextrose. Once it is absorbed by the body, this complex carbohydrate can increase blood sugar levels and restore glycogen levels, which will make sure you get the energy you need during your intensive workouts, but without making your feel bloated or uncomfortable.

What Is the Difference Between Complex Carbohydrates and Simple Sugars?

The complex carbohydrates from our Australian online supplements range are quite different from the simple sugars that are often used to get energy. Simple sugars are not that easily absorbed by the body, while complex carbohydrates are. In other words, even if you use the right amount of simple sugars for your body’s requirements, it does not necessarily mean that your body can absorb it.

Simple sugars are also known to provide athletes with quick energy peaks, but also quick energy crashes, contrary to the complex carbohydrates from our Australian online supplements range, which provide athletes with a steady stream of energy without the crash afterwards.

The nature of the complex carbohydrates in our Australian online supplements range also make these supplements suitable for use after your training, since they may aid the recovery process. In conclusion, complex carbohydrates are more versatile than simple sugars, and can also prevent some of the side-effects that are usually accompanied by simple sugars.

Can I Combine Maltodextrin with Other Supplements?

Combining Maltodextrin with other supplements is not unheard of, because Maltodextrin is often a part of a muscle stack available on Nutrients Direct. While the use of Maltodextrin is limited before, during or after your training, other protein powder supplements in a muscle stack can provide athletes with even more benefits for their sports performance.

Why Should I Combine Carbohydrates with a Protein Powder?

The combination of carbohydrates and protein powders in our muscle stack is something that has clear benefits for athletes, because it takes care of even the smallest aspects of your training. To really understand why the combination of carbohydrates and protein powder in a muscle stack could benefit you, let us take a closer look at how they are used and the benefits they deliver.

In general, the body needs three important nutrients to function properly. These nutrients include protein, good fats and carbohydrates, which is why this combination can often be found in our muscle stacks in the form of protein powders and carbohydrate supplements, which in some cases also contains those healthy fats we need. Below, you will find an overview of the function of each nutrient, which should make the function of each one a little clearer.

Protein

When protein enters the body, it is broken down in structures called amino acids. These amino acids are used by the body to create new proteins and each of these proteins will have their own unique function.

Proteins can be used by the body for functions such as being a catalyst for chemical reactions, the communication between the cells, transporting biological molecules around the body and so much more.

In addition to being responsible for various biological and chemical processes inside the body, protein can also be a source of energy. When the body does not have enough carbohydrates or fat to provide energy, the body will start looking at protein.

Fats

Healthy fats are extremely important for our body, because more than half of the energy we use on a daily basis is provided by these fats. When we eat a food, or use a supplement, with healthy fats, the body will break down those fats into structures called fatty acids. These fatty acids are then used by cells in need of energy, or converted to triglycerides and stored in the body for future use.

Carbohydrates

Carbohydrates are also a source of energy for the human body, but can only be stored in very limited amounts. In general, we could state that our body can only store up to two days’ worth of carbs, which is why athletes need to supply their body with carbohydrates on a regular basis.

Once carbohydrates enter the body, they will be deconstructed into smaller pieces. The smaller pieces can either be glucose or another sugar that can be converted to glucose later on. Glucose is absorbed by the walls of the small intestine and then makes its way to the liver. Once glucose has passed through the liver, it finally enters our bloodstream, where it causes an increase in blood sugar.

While our body can use fats and protein as a source of energy when there are not enough carbohydrates, there are some special cells in the body that cannot use fat as a source of fuel alone, they also need carbohydrates to function correctly. Good examples of these cells are our brain cells. In other words, when you do not consume the right amount of carbohydrates, you may experience the side-effects of poorly functioning brain cells. Therefore, never eliminate carbohydrates out of your diet!

Conclusion

The road to success depends on numerous factors, but the most important things during your journey is ensuring you get the proper nutrition. While you can use supplements to fill up any gaps in your diet, or provide you with more energy during your training, getting the right nutrients from your food is still important to succeed and to stay healthy.

Carbohydrates are an important part of your diet, even though they are the enemy according to many dieters. However, carbohydrates are needed for energy provision and the repair of your body after rigorous exercise. So, if you decide to ban carbohydrates from your diet, you might experience more problems. Getting carbohydrates in your diet when you’re on a diet can be difficult though, because high levels of carbohydrates are usually connected to a lot of calories. Therefore, a supplement such as Maltodextrin can be extremely useful, considering the limited number of calories per serving. Using Maltodextrin is straightforward, since athletes don’t have to take things such as loading phases into consideration. Athletes can also use this supplement at any time of day, but the carbohydrate blend does seem most effective when used after training.

Have you used our Maltodextrin before and would you like to share your experiences with this supplement with other athletes? Be sure to add your review of our Maltodextrin to TrustPilot.
